3 strikes and I'm out! I flooded my arowana tank area again!

3

I never learn from mistakes… Sigh!  I decided to do some tank cleaning yesterday as there were some algae growth on the walls.  So I did the usual… filter change, tank wall scrubbing, getting rid of waste from the substrate below and of course water change.  As I was topping up the water in the tank, I decided to go into my study room to check out my email box.  Big mistake!  I thought I timed it just right!  Man! Was I wrong!  By the time I came out, the water had overflowed onto my dining area floor!  Believe it or not, this is the third time I have done this!  I don't even dare to imagine the state of the flooring under my tank!  You see, I have laminated wood flooring and the water has seeped into the wood and some pieces has started to bulge up!  Took me about an hour just to soak up all the water that I COULD SEE ONLY!  Had 2 fans running for about 4 hours after that hoping that it can dry up areas that cannot be seen.  :-(   AND I ran a dehumidifier all night to hopefully get rid of what's left!  I think when I remove my 5 foot tank from that spot, I'll have to redo the flooring under it!  My wife is pissed but what to do except apologize profusely! ;-)

Did I also mentioned that one of the flourescent light plugs fell into the water while I was doing the cleaning?  Lucky the power strip it was plugged into did not fall in as well, or else my arowana could had been fried BIG TIME!!!   It was really not my day yesterday!  I had to open the plug and dry the insides of the plug this morning.  As if I did not have enough to do!  Just one of those days…

I also noticed that my arowana was gasping (but only slightly) for air this morning.  I am also guilty sometimes of changing too much water. (ONLY change a maximum of about 1/4 tank each time.  Have to be more careful next time.  Please try to remember this point as I have seen hobbyist do a lot of harm to their arowanas when they forget this point.  (This point is not only relevant for arowanas but for all aquarium fishes)  Don't stress your arowana unnecessarily!
