My arowana has cloudy eye again after my Australian holiday..
Hi all,
Just back from my holiday downunder.. Man! I need a holiday to get over this holiday.. Real tired… Story of my life!
Anyway, came back and found out that my arowana had a cloudy eye again. Ok this was my fault! I got someone to feed my arowana the past 2 weeks BUT WHAT I did not do was tell that person to take out all the uneaten food. I had pieces of market prawns that was decaying in there and the water was kinda greenish. (I think it was not only algae) My red arowana was pale! Boy was I worried! I also notice that there was a bit of liquid in the eye itself.
What did I do? As tired as I was, I had to change the water in case it got worst. I removed about 1/3 of the tank water from there. (I usually only remove 1/4 tank maximum but I decided that I would remove a bit more this time) I put in salt and black water as well together with the change of water.
That was 2 days back. Good news is my arowana seems ok now. The cloudy eye is slowly clearing and it has started to eat again.
Hope you all learn something from this.. Cheerio and talk to you soon!
Cheers!
Steven

Comments on My arowana has cloudy eye again after my Australian holiday..
At of i'm writing this email, i feel so sad….when i got back from work yesterday, i found my aro swimming still and then suddenly when it turn….i saw the left eye…swollen and has some sort like catarac..a white "selaput" covering the eye and the eye is very swollen.. i do not what is it?? is that how cloudy eyes look like?? i took couple of photos i went over to the fish shop and they tell me it's caused by fungus, probably from the live feeder (gold fish)..he told me to change the water, which i did, about 30%. add salt about 1/4 of 1 kilo and medicated it with BETTAS anti fungus.
This morning, the condition of the eye havent change much. Though it not very swollen anymore but the white cloudy has become worst….gosh, i actually cried my self to bed last night and cried again this morning. When i 1st bought this fish, i didnt even thought that i will be so attached to it like in the state i am now..
Jazzileen,
DOn't need to add any medication. It is not fungus.. Just change water and add salt like what I mentioned in this article.
Cloudy eye is caused by the 'bad' condition of the water. It is very common. Once in a while, my arowanas get it as well. It will go away in time. Sometimes up to a week for it to clear.
Just change your water every 3-4 days for the next week or two and your fish will be fine!

What is the ration for the salt and blackwater for a 4ft aquarium when we change 20-30% of water? how much of these salt and blackwater we need to top up? i dont understand all the instruction–etc, per gallon, per ml ?!^%….helppp
Jazzilleen,
Thanks for the kind words.
As I mentioned, cloudy eyes can be easily cured by several changes of water.
ok as for the salt.. as a rough guide, if you have a 4ft tank, maybe just put in about 150gms everytime you change the water..
Steven
Can you suggest some medication that is readily availabe in the UAE for cloudy eyes of silver arowan
Rozario,
You do not need medication for cloudy eye. You just need to change the water and the cloudy eyes will clear up in a few weeks.
