Any good alternatives to the Asian Arowanas?
Hiya everyone… hope all's well!
I have received quite a few emails from readers about their frustrations on not being able to get the beautiful asian arowanas in their respective countries. As most of you know, the asian arowanas are protected under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangared Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and only countries who are signatory to the agreement on the endangered asian arowanas can legally trade in them. If you want to know more about CITES, you can visit http://www.cites.org/ to check out what they do.
So what does this mean? Well, if you live in countries like the US or Australia, you will unfortunately not be able to buy an asian arowanas there. (For now at least!)
BUT do not despair!.. as there are alternatives to the asian arowanas until the respective governments of these countries become signatories to the CITES agreement. I have written 2 articles recently on the Australian Saratogas as well as the South American Silver Arowanas. Do get your hands on the articles and get to know more about these excellent alternatives and after that.. what the heck! Take the plunge! Get one! You won't regret it!

2) Southe American arowanas http://ezinearticles.com/?Silver-Arowana-Another-Excellent-Substitute-For-Its-More-Expensive-Cousin-The-Asian-Arowana&id=416059
By the way, a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to all Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese arowana hobbyists wherever you are in the world! Have a great year ahead!
Cheers!

Please write to me at steven@arowana-care.com next time. Anyway my answer is as below :
Rilak,
You should not wait until the water becomes cloudy before considering changing the water. Iguess the first thing to do is to get a good filter system and if this is not enough, you need to change about a quarter tank of water every other week.
Only when your water is of good condition will the administering of medication going to help.
Best of luck.
